We fashion one kind of game, and no other: worlds heavy with questions, and gods long fallen.
I · The Game
“Of all the works of a dead age, only the simplest remembers its purpose.”
A souls-like, and our first. You are the crudest engine a dead people ever wrought: a cannon upon a single wheel, sent against their ornate and broken gods.
Three convictions bear its weight. They follow.
The great machines outlived their makers, and fell to ritual and madness. You alone are too plain a thing to lose your mind. In a garden of broken gods, simplicity is the last sanity.
You are a small and top-heavy thing, and every shot exacts its toll. Press your fortune one inch too far and you lie upturned before something vast. Mastery is to ride the trembling, and not be thrown.
No hordes, and no delaying. Each fight is a duel with a god that went wrong after its own fashion, and none will suffer you to fight from safety. To stand far is not to stand safe.
II · The Studio
A game may ask what an essay cannot.
Ashes Studios keeps a single trade: the making of worlds for the thoughts that will not let us be. Belief, and the doubt beneath it. Guilt, and the hand that shares in it. What remains of purpose, when the age that gave it has burned away.
The games come slowly, and they do not come gentle: each carries a single question the whole way through, and asks you to carry it too. The roll of names is short; it is kept here.
